Project Overview

Caltrans is leading the Safer, Stronger Pacific Coast Highway: PCH Climate Adaptation and Resiliency Plan to address existing and future climate threats along the PCH corridor within Orange County. The goal of this effort is to find ways to protect the roadway, keep people traveling safely, and maintain access to coastal communities and resources. This fall, Caltrans wants to hear from community members about potential climate resilience strategies to address these issues at priority locations along the PCH corridor.

Project Goals:

  • Maintain present-day functionality of PCH corridor for all users while adapting to changing future conditions and improving safety
  • Preserve and improve public access to the shoreline
  • Uphold and enhance visual character of the corridor
  • Prioritize nature-based adaptation solutions to leverage the protective value of ecosystems
  • Spend taxpayer dollars responsibly
