District 4 Vegetation Management Program Fuels Reduction Plan
District 4 Vegetation Management Program Fuels Reduction Plan
The District 4 vegetation management plan includes priority locations for current and future fuels reduction work.
Overview
The Caltrans District 4 Bay Area Office of Maintenance Environmental is working to update the Vegetation Management Program (VMP) for fuels reduction and wildfire prevention. The goal of this project is to align Caltrans’ vegetation management priorities with the priorities of local Bay Area fire agencies and Emergency Operations managers. With aligned priorities, vegetation management can be conducted more efficiently, opportunities for coordination can be identified, and resources can be deployed strategically.
The VMP includes the state right of way within the nine county Bay Area, with 15 “priority corridors” located in seven of the nine counties, including Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, Santa Clara, San Mateo, and Sonoma counties along Routes 1, 9, 17, 24, 29, 35, 84, 121, 128, 280, 580, and 680. A priority corridor is a portion of the state highway system that will be a focus for fuels reduction treatment in the next five years.
Mapping for the VMP currently includes input from regional fire officials gathered during the winter of 2021/2022. Your new input will help us update mapped priority corridors for future work. Please read through these pages and let us know what your current priorities are.
