I-15 Comprehensive Multimodal Corridor Plan
I-15 Comprehensive Multimodal Corridor Plan
The Interstate 15 (I-15) Comprehensive Multimodal Corridor Plan (CMCP) is a study to analyze transportation improvements along the State Route 15 (SR-15) and Interstate 15 (I-15) corridor from the southern interchange with Interstate 5 (I-5) to the northern boundary of San Diego County and Riverside County.
What We Are Doing
The I-15 CMCP will identify potential improvements to enhance the way people travel throughout San Diego County utilizing the I-15 Corridor. I-15 is a major north–south route in San Diego County, serving cities and communities such as San Diego, Kearny Mesa, Mira Mesa, Rancho Peñasquitos, Poway, and Escondido and providing connections to Riverside County. Projects will prioritize safety, access to opportunities, and reduction of vehicle miles traveled (VMT) through improved access and function of multimodal transportation modes such as walking, biking, and transit.
Why This Matters
The I-15 Corridor is a critical part of the county’s transportation network. Every day, thousands of residents, businesses, commuters, and visitors depend on this vital route to access homes, jobs, schools, and entertainment. With increasing traffic and evolving transportation needs, it’s essential that we plan ahead to ensure the corridor continues to serve everyone effectively. The CMCP will be a long-term strategy designed to address challenges by identifying solutions to ease congestion, improve safety, and expand travel options for all users—whether people drive, take the bus or train, bike, or walk. It also considers economic growth, environmental sustainability, and access to opportunities, ensuring that transportation improvements benefit all communities, protect natural resources, and create a more accessible and resilient future for all San Diego County residents. It also will serve as a blueprint for future investments and will help position projects for funding through state, regional, and federal programs.
