State Route 20/49 Complete Streets Feasibility Study
State Route 20/49 Complete Streets Feasibility Study
Caltrans is conducting a feasibility study on the State Route (SR) 20/49 interchange to assess and develop comprehensive alternative solutions that address bicyclist and pedestrian safety, accessibility, and connectivity. The study also explores alternative safety solutions that improve traffic flow for easy and efficient access to the interchange.
Public engagement is an important part of the planning and project development process. Caltrans has created this website to serve as a resource to share information about the study and gather feedback. This page will be updated with new information as this feasibility study evolves.
Overview
Overview
Caltrans and our partners are initiating a feasibility study to evaluate accessibility for bicyclists, pedestrians, and vehicles at the SR 20/49 interchange located in the City of Grass Valley.
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to develop potential solutions that address bicyclists, pedestrians, and vehicular needs at or near the interchange. In collaboration with local and regional partners, the intent of the study is to create a safe, comprehensive, connected, and integrated transportation network that enhances transportation accessibility for the interchange and its surrounding facilities through viable infrastructure improvements.
Need
Evaluate the current conditions at the SR 20/49 interchange to better support bicyclists, pedestrians, and vehicular facilities. Currently, the interchange lacks bicycle facilities and only includes sidewalks on the north-side of the interchange. This study will consider existing travel performance measures and will seek to identify improvements that better accommodate all modes of travel.
Next Steps and Funding
At the conclusion of this feasibility study, the recommended improvements may advance into a future project. Next steps would move forward from pre-planning phase, where the Caltrans team will further refine the ideas proposed in the feasibility study. Local and regional partners will continue to work with Caltrans throughout the planning phase to help bring these improvements to life.
The listed grants are potential funding opportunities that can be explored to program a project.
Statewide grant programs:
Active Transportation Program (ATP) grant encourages increased use of active modes of transportation such as biking and walking.
Federal discretionary grants:
Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) grant presents a significant opportunity for funding, as it supports safety improvements, environmental connectivity, quality of life, mobility, economic competitiveness, innovation, and more.
The Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant provides a suitable program that funds regional, local, and Tribal initiatives through grants to prevent roadway fatalities and serious injuries, which aligns with this study's commitment to safer streets for all users.
