Project Description:
What Is A Corridor Management Plan?
The United States Route 101 (US 101) Corridor Management Plan serves as a guide for long range planning of route improvements. It protects the State’s investment in US 101, while recognizing financial and environmental limits on state resources.
The goals of the CMP include safety, mobility, and stewardship to the community and the environment. This is accomplished through highway, transit, pedestrian, bicycle, freight, and operational improvements. The long-range vision for US 101 emphasizes mobility and the development of a layered network, reflecting its role as a principal arterial roadway.
Planning Area
US 101 is nearly the length of the West Coast of the Continental United States. It begins at the junction with I-5 in Los Angeles and travels 1,540 miles through California, Oregon and Washington before ending at I-5 in Olympia, Washington. Within District 1, US 101 travels north from Sonoma County (Caltrans District 4) through Mendocino, Humboldt, and Del Norte Counties before crossing into Oregon. In Caltrans District 1, US 101 spans 285 miles in total.
