What We Are Doing

Caltrans District 3 is developing the SR 20 Corridor Plan to improve how people travel along the route. This highway supports a wide range of travel – from daily commutes and local trips to commercial trucking, agricultural business, and recreational travel.

The SR 20 Corridor Plan is a long-term strategy that looks ahead to the year 2050. Caltrans is working closely with local and regional agencies to evaluate current conditions and future needs along the corridor. Together, we examine traffic flow, access to public transportation, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, and more. The goal is to create a transportation system that is efficient, sustainable, equitable, and supports healthy communities and a strong economy.

Why This Matters

The SR 20 Corridor Plan isn’t just a planning document – it is a roadmap for how this highway may better function for everyone. Whether you drive, bike, walk, ride transit, or move goods, this plan aims to enhance your day-to-day experience.

The plan will evaluate:

  • Roadways and intersections

  • Infrastructure needs for future growth and climate resilience

  • Connections to school, jobs, healthcare, and essential services

  • Opportunities to expand biking, walking, and transit options – not just driving

Study Area

This plan focuses on a 123-mile stretch of SR 20 that travels through Colusa, Sutter, Yuba, and Nevada Counties. This study area includes key communities such as City of Williams, City of Colusa, Yuba City, City of Marysville, City of Grass Valley, and Nevada City. This corridor plays a vital role in connecting residents and businesses, supporting regional mobility, economic growth, and access to recreational destinations.
