State Route 33 Corridor Description

The State Route (SR) 33 Corridor Plan is a long-range multimodal transportation planning document. SR 33 is approximately a 165-mile state route and is one of the longest state routes in District 6. It connects the cities of Maricopa, Taft, Avenal, Coalinga, Mendota, and Firebaugh. Communities along SR 33 also include Derby Acres, McKittrick, and Three Rocks. The corridor plan will evaluate current and projected conditions and needs along SR 33 through Kern, Kings, and Fresno Counties, from the San Luis Obispo County/Kern County Line to the Fresno County/Merced County line and convey the vision for the development of the route. It will be developed with the goals of increasing safety, improving mobility, and providing access for all users. It will also help stakeholders and decision-makers prioritize potential projects and funding opportunities. 

What is a Corridor Plan?

A corridor plan analyzes how a corridor is performing and how it is projected to perform in the future, why it is performing that way, and recommends projects and strategies that achieve corridor goals and objectives. This is done through a collaborative and coordinated process with stakeholders and partners. The plan addresses transportation system performance, multimodal access, quality of life, access to destinations, as well as environmental factors. Through this process, a clear vision for the route is developed, which in turn provides for an integrated, seamless, resilient, multimodal, and accessible system.
