City of Wasco SR 43 and 46 Multi-modal Study
City of Wasco SR 43 and 46 Multi-modal Study
Caltrans District 6 is conducting a feasibility study along State Routes (SR) 43 and 46 within the city of Wasco. This feasibility study will analyze existing conditions along SR 43 and 46 to help formalize potential solutions that expand connectivity and improve access to various transportation options. This study will help determine whether any future solution(s) are feasible before committing to formal design and construction processes. This study will provide a range of enhancement alternatives designed to encourage walking, bicycling, and transit use along both state routes, aiming to create a more accessible urban environment that meets the needs of road users.
Plan Description:
This feasibility study will evaluate opportunities to enhance multimodal transportation along State Routes 43 and 46 in Wasco, focusing on walking, bicycling, transit, and accessibility for people with mobility challenges. This study builds upon previous community engagement efforts including a walk assessment. Key observations from the walk assessment and community input indicate a need to focus on sidewalk gaps, bikeway gaps, and wide lane configuration that can contribute to high vehicle speeds. These conditions tend to discourage pedestrian and cyclist activity, limiting accessibility and safety for non-motorized travelers.
The study’s objectives include:
- Strategies that can encourage the use of non-motorized travel.
- Options that can enhance accessibility for pedestrians and bicyclists to key destinations, transit stops, and other points of interest.
- Strategies for traffic calming to enhance safety for all modes of transportation.
This study aims to provide transportation solutions that can enhance connectivity and accessibility in Wasco, promoting a mode shift toward alternative travel options, and address the needs of diverse road users. Such improvements can support healthier lifestyles and provide essential transportation alternatives for residents in disadvantaged communities. The outcome of this feasibility study is to present a range of alternatives designed to address the existing conditions in the community.
