State Route 49 Multimodal Corridor Improvement Project: PA&ED Phase
Caltrans District 3 and Nevada County Transportation Commission (NCTC) are working closely together to develop a multimodal corridor improvement project near Nevada City.
During the PA&ED phase, Caltrans will conduct studies including traffic analysis, environmental assessment, identify land use needs, and develop the necessary environmental documents in accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act and National Environmental Policy Act (CEQA/NEPA).
Public engagement is an important part of the PA&ED Phase. As the project further develops, this page will be updated with new information.
Project Overview
The State Route 49 (SR 49) Multimodal Corridor Improvement Project focuses on improving key intersections, pedestrian and bicycle facilities, and improving crossings from the State Route 20/SR 49/Uren Street intersection to Nevada County Juvenile Hall. The improvements will allow active transportation users to travel along and across the SR 49 corridor safely and comfortably while accessing important destinations near the project area.

- Ending Fall 2025 (target date)
Design Phase (Plans, Specifications and Estimate):
- Winter 2026 - Spring 2027 (target dates)
Construction Phase:
- Fall 2027 - Fall 2029 (target dates)
