WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK

We are seeking your input to ensure the project aligns with community needs and priorities.  Your responses to the survey will be instrumental in:

  • Evaluating Alternatives: Your feedback will help us assess the proposed alternatives, such as pedestrian overcrossing and interchange configuration.
  • Identifying Concerns: Key concerns like traffic signals, lighting, and bicycle infrastructure have been raised.  Your input will guide us in addrssing these issues effectively.
  • Shaping Enhancements: Suggestions for additional features, such as wider sidewalks or landscaping, will be considered in the project planning and design phases.

Next Steps:  The project team will review all feedback and integrate it into the decision-making processs.  A summary report will be shared with the community to keep you informed of how your input has influenced the project.

We appreciate your involvement and look forward to your continued engagement.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

I-710 is a major north-south interstate freeway connecting the City of Long Beach to central Los Angeles. The I-710 (also called the Long Beach Freeway) starts from the Port of Los Angeles in the south running along the Los Angeles River, and it continues north away from the river before ending near to the I-10 in City of Alhambra. This section of the freeway has heavy truck traffics due to trucks traveling between the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach and railroad freight yards near the I-710/I-5 interchange.

Within the project limits, this portion of I-710 is a ten-lane freeway (4 general purpose and 1 auxiliary in each direction) with a center median
divider. The I-710/Florence Ave is a “cloverleaf” interchange built in the 1950s, and the existing interchange configuration consists of uncontrolled, skewed intersections with free flow on/off-ramps. Florence Ave Overcrossing is a six-lane bridge (2 through and 1 auxiliary in each direction) with nonstandard railings and five-foot-wide sidewalk in each direction. This is the long-term improvement project, one of the three separate improvement projects (short-term, mid-term, and long-term) at this interchange. Information for each can be found below:

THE PURPOSE

The purpose of this project is to improve safety and enhance mobility for pedestrians and bicyclists. The project intends to accomplish this by reconfiguring the interchange to facilitate travel for bicyclists and pedestrians on the Florence Avenue Overcrossing, while reducing opportunities for conflicts between vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists

PROJECT AREA

The I-710 and Florence Avenue Interchange Improvement Project is located in Los Angeles County, at the intersection of Interstate 710 and Florence Avenue (within the City of Bell).  The busy interchange currently features four non-signalized, skewed intersections with free flow on/off ramps, creating significant challenges for pedestrians and cyclists.
